We also want to announce some important changes to our asi team
Richard Marks joins the asi Hall of Fame! After 10 years as our Research Director, Richard has retired from the media research world and is enjoying the freedom to pursue his many interests – a book that has been a long time in the planning, his artwork, his passion for music and, of course, Chelsea FC. Although this move has been long-planned, the news is nonetheless bitter-sweet for all in our community.
Richard’s contribution to the planning and delivery of our conferences and podcasts are well-known and respected. He has hosted nearly all the 188 asi casts (which will continue to be available on-demand!) and has chaired and curated many sessions as we have tracked the evolution of TV and Radio in the streaming age. He has played a significant role in helping us keep our community informed and engaged – including difficult years during the pandemic. Our many chairs and speakers – as well as the asi team – will always be enormously grateful to the support he provided us, always willing to lend an ear or offer guidance whenever needed. On a personal level, we thank Richard and wish him well as he enjoys the pursuits more leisure time offers.
Whilst we will miss his contributions both on and off the media research industry stage and screen, Richard now joins the asi Hall of Fame, complete with a perpetual life-time season ticket for asi conferences. Although he will not be able to join us this year, we look forward to welcoming him to our events in the future and to being an active member of the asi community as and when he needs a break from art, music and football.
Meanwhile, we’re also delighted that John McCarthy joins asi as an Executive Director, fulfilling this role alongside other ventures which will be announced later this year.
John brings a unique perspective to the team and we are looking forward to working with him. A well-known attendee at asi over the past 15 years, he was most recently Chief Marketing Officer at Kantar Media where he created the company’s first dedicated communications function for audience measurement, established their annual global client event and was part of the original management team that oversaw their expansion to over 60+ markets today. John’s ability to navigate complex challenges as the industry continues to evolve and expand has earned him the trust and respect of clients, platforms and partners alike.
John says ‘asi is the essential international stage facilitating much-needed dialogue and knowledge-sharing at the intersection of content, advertising and measurement – across platforms and increasingly across media. I am excited to be joining Mike, Kate and the asi team, and I look forward to continuing to prioritise the needs of our growing community, maintaining the highest editorial standards to deliver independent, relevant and informative programmes that can ensure all are well-positioned for long-term success.’
