asiCast 152: Early days for Netflix in ad-supported streaming

It’s been a particularly interesting quarter for Netflix – the first since the launch of its advertising tier. In this podcast Richard Marks has a chat with Guy Bisson, Executive Director and co-founder of Ampere Analysis, who is a regular contributor both to this podcast and our conferences. Although it is very early days, Guy believes the initial indicators seem positive even though, as expected, there have been a few teething problems.

Richard and Guy also discuss the crackdown on password sharing and the company’s customer retention strategy. Of critical importance is Netflix’s content strategy and Guy notes that there has been a marked shift in commissioning where a substantial number of commissions are now ex-US.

The interview concludes by looking at the further development of the ad-supported streaming market with the introduction of FAST channels.
